Zoom into a leaf, a hand, a pond
BIO-1 Cells are the units of lifeX-3 Look from another side
What many people think
Only animals are made of cells.
The idea
Zoom in far enough on any living thing and you find cells.
Explain it
A friend says “plants aren't made of cells like we are”. Using what you zoomed into, tell them what leaf and cheek cells share, and what only the leaf cell has.
Try at home
Peel the thin see-through skin from inside an onion layer, lay it flat on a window and look with a magnifier or your phone's zoom. Can you see brick-like cells? Then try a drop of puddle water.
