The idea
The same meaning can be said formally or casually; the right choice depends on who you are talking to and why.
Explain it
Write the same short request (e.g. borrowing a book) three times: to a close friend, to a teacher, to a library. Explain what you changed each time and why the most formal version is not the “best” one.
Try at home
Collect three real English messages you received this week (a text, a school notice, an advert email). Underline contractions, phrasal verbs and passives, and guess who wrote each one for whom.
