Draw a map of my home
GEO-1 A map is the world made smallX-3 Look from another side
What many people think
Things on a map are drawn as big as they look important.
The idea
A map shrinks every distance by the same number; the scale tells you that number.
Explain it
A friend draws their bedroom bigger than the whole kitchen because it is their favourite room. Explain why a real map can't do that. Use the word "scale".
Try at home
Measure your room in steps or with a tape. Draw it on squared paper where 1 cm on the paper = 50 cm in the room. Measure your bed on the paper, multiply by 50, and check with the real bed.
