What a population pyramid tells you

GEO-4 People change places, and places change peopleX-2 Evidence outweighs opinion
What many people think

A country with more young people simply has more people.

The idea

The shape of the pyramid shows today's births and deaths and predicts the population of the next 30 years.

Try it yourself

Explain it

A friend says: “Country A only has more young people — that's all.” Use the words ‘parents’ and ‘in 25 years’ to explain what the wide base means for the future.

Try at home

List the ages of everyone in your extended family (grandparents to cousins). Sort them into 10-year groups and draw your family's own pyramid. Who will be the parents in 20 years?
