The idea
Every source was made by someone, at some time, for some purpose; asking who, when and why tells you what the source can and cannot show.
Explain it
A classmate says: “The ballad is very old, so its number must be right.” Use two other sources to answer them: who made each, when, and why?
Try at home
Find two accounts of the same family event (a photo caption, a message, someone's memory). For each ask who made it, when and why. Where do they disagree, and which would you trust for what?
