Where is the person in the mirror?
The image is on the surface of the mirror, and stepping back lets you see more of yourself.
A plane mirror's image sits behind the glass, as far behind as you are in front, so to see your whole body you need a mirror half your height, wherever you stand.
Your little brother walks backwards away from the bathroom mirror to see his shoes in it. Using the words “image”, “behind the mirror” and “halfway”, explain why that does not work and what would.
Stand in front of a bathroom mirror. With a sticky note or a bit of soap, mark where you see the top of your head and the bottom of your chin. Measure the gap and compare it with your real face. Then step back and look again: does your face still fit between the marks?
